Discover how one campus designed and implemented a program that virtually invites scientsists and researchers into the classroom and encourages student participation, public speaking, critical thinking, and curiosity. Research on the program's effectiveness and impact on students will also be presented.

2017-2018 speakers included two former US ambassadors (Russia & South Korea), leading scientists at the Smithsonian, Field,  Natural History Museum, and La Brea Tar Pits.  A wildlife photographer (NPR film on Cheetahs) from Zimbabwe,   One of the members of the NASA Mars Mission study conducted on a Hawiian volcano for 366 days.  The top female astronaut (Peggy Whitson).  The United Nations was one of the final speakers.

A total of 51 noted speakers (31 female, 20 male) spoke to the McMath Middle School students  over the course of the year.  Next year will include at least one Nobel Leaurate as well as the Head of the Smithsonian Air & Space Museum.  Virtually all speakers have volunteered to participate again next year.

All talks were really a Q&A with the students interacting with the speakers.  These were not lectures but engagements with the students.  About 150 career choices were addressed over the course of the year.   The sessions are held during the student's lunch period so no extra demands are put on the school administration.

Cost to the school system:  $0
