The University of Texas High School Research Initiative (HRI) offers a dual-enrollment, project-based research course. Taught by trained high school teachers at their high school campuses, the HRI course offers an open-inquiry research experience for the first semester and a University-partnered research collaboration for the second semester. In this talk, we will provide an overview of the HRI program, provide a demonstration of the open-inquiry project conversations (teaching students how to "ask and answer their own scientific question" and a conference participants to facilitate this discussion), as well as report the early HRI program results and lessons learned from this program. Plus, we'll touch on how to introduce inquiry (even small doses of inquiry) into already existing course materials!
