Maria E Thompson

Maria Thompson, originally from Colombia, obtained a BA at UT Austin in Spanish Civilization, with a minor in Botany. She later received a Masters in C&I from TX State in San Marcos where she has been the science instructional coach for the six elementary schools since 2014. Her passion for plants, art and children's education led her to work for The LBJ Wildflower Center and Jourdan-Bachman Pioneer Farm in outdoor education, as well as the Austin Children's Museum and Dallas Arboretum creating exhibits. Ten years of experience in bilingual classrooms teaching students from Pre-K to 5th grade, numerous summers engaging campers, including NASA/FAMA engineering camps, and creating multiple after school clubs geared toward a bilingual population and underrepresented students in the sciences, have added to her personal growth. She currently lives in Lockhart where she enjoys gardening, raising chickens, hikes in the State Park, drawing and writing in her spare time.
